BAchelor’s Thesis: Garden Beyond

Garden Beyond – the title of my indiegame concept and bachelor’s thesis. Given the rise of AI generated content throughout all corners of the internet (and beyond) I took on the implementation of genAI in game prototyping.

I wrote the game concept in advance and created a playable prototype in Unreal Engine 5.4 using exclusively custom AI-generated assets. At this intersection of research and AI-supported implementation, we play as Ivan, a young man obsessed with tending to a virtual flowerbed. Amid blooming pixels and quiet routine, another question arises:

Is a place needed in order to let go?

To define a consistent visual style, I developed a custom AI-generation pipeline using Stable Diffusion ControlNets. I produced and curated large batches of style variations, identified strong patterns, and used them to guide the creation of object references and textured 3D assets.

All in game mechanics and features were built using Blueprints.
